High-volume processing with IBS IntegratorThe customerSigma Pharmaceuticals Limited is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange and was founded by two Melbourne pharmacists in 1912. The company aims to be the leading Australian pharmaceutical manufacturer and marketer, as well as the most efficient pharmaceutical wholesale distributor and retail banner group in Australia. Sigma’s demandsSigma established a number of priority requirements for a high-volume integration solution, some of these being: Ability to handle large volumes of suppliers, SKUs and orders. Sigma has approximately 4,500 customers, 500 suppliers and a product range of 16,000 lines, with over 275,000 lines processed each day. Ability for quick turnaround: within two hours of receiving the order, it should be confirmed, invoiced and picked ready for dispatch. A secure and stable solution that never compromises day-to-day business operations.
These stringent prerequisites placed serious demands on an enterprise application integration system. Sigma evaluated IBS Integrator, and it more than met the company’s needs with the exception of some minor issues that were resolved by IBS. The solutionSigma uses IBS Integrator for all sorts of integration, with large-volume processing consisting of text files (incoming and outgoing). Today the company uses IBS EAI software to handle more than 500,000 files and 100,000 orders per day. The solution also handles all picking and pick confirmations through an interface with Sigma’s automated warehouse. Sigma is running IBS Integrator under a Windows 2003 Server on a single processor, Intel-based server with 6GB RAM and fast RAID 0 configured disks. As always when it comes to hardware, bigger is better, and Sigma is currently pushing their server nearly to its limit. An extra processor is probably on the near horizon for the company, while IBS Integrator will continue to handle the high volumes of transactions that Sigma requires.
