Three decades of growth at IBS

In 2008, IBS will enter its 30th year as a supplier of business systems. During this time, we have grown into one of the world’s leading global suppliers of software solutions for supply chains, with offices and partners in approximately 40 countries and more than 5 000 customers throughout the world.

International Business Systems, IBS, was founded in 1978, when Staffan Ahlberg and Gunnar Rylander decided to transform the IT division of Ekonomisk Företagsledning into an independent company. Their goal was to help customers achieve increased efficiency and service, and their drive and dedication gave the new company the lift it needed.

Close cooperation with customers

The company’s first major success was a global assignment to develop an order processing system for all of Alfa Laval’s international subsidiaries. This type of close, long-term partnership set the standard for IBS’ method of establishing exceptionally close cooperation with customers to develop and deliver world-class global solutions. By 1986, the company was well-established, respected and ready to be listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.

While this early product, known today as IBS Enterprise, continued to expand and improve through extensive research and development and partnership projects with customers, the company also grew as a result of significant international acquisitions. The company also established close cooperation with IBM, with IBS becoming one of the leading suppliers of software for the IBM AS/400 (now Series i). In 2001, IBS set a new record by achieving the highest transaction volumes ever recorded in IBM’s testing lab in Rochester, New York for the AS/400. This type of stable, reliable and powerful performance has come to distinguish IBS within the industry.

Continued globalization

In recent years, IBS has continued its strategic acquisitions with the aim of increasing global sales to new key markets and regions. IBS has also continued to sign agreements with significant international customers, which has strengthened the company’s position as an international supplier.

In addition to its supply chain product, IBS Enterprise, IBS continues to develop and supply other products, applications and services – all following the original philosophy of strengthening customers’ businesses. Under the leadership of a new Board of Directors and CEO Erik Heilborn, the company has now been restructured to become an increasingly internationally oriented organization, with an explicit focus on specific industries – a move that will further strengthen IBS’ presence globally.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers and partners for supporting us during the past 30 years.
