Otto Geilenkirchen gets ready for the future – with IBS Pharma

News & Events 2008-01-18

Medium-sized pharma wholesaler from Aachen opts for comprehensive package consisting of industry-specific software, hardware and services from International Business Systems. Third new customer in Germany this year substantiates the importance of the IBS pharma solution which is installed worldwide and continuously increases its market share in Germany as well.

IBS Pharma continues its success among pharmaceutical wholesalers in the German market. Otto Geilenkirchen OHG, a long-established company with its headquarters in Aachen and a subsidiary in Mönchengladbach, has chosen to implement the industry-specific solution provided by International Business Systems (IBS), the globally active specialist for standard business software solutions, consultancy and services. Adapted to the requirements of the German market, the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) suite, IBS Pharma, includes modules for distribution, warehouse management, inventory control, requests and returns, alert management, radio frequency handling, MDC (Multi-Distribution Center) concepts as well as financial management. The agreement also covers licenses for IBS Integrator to merge applications, data and business processes, as well as the IBS Business Intelligence (BI) module to create management analysis and reports. The project roadmap also comprises a corresponding service package and the delivery of a powerful IBM Server i5 (model 525). The entire implementation is expected to go live towards the end of 2008, with Otto Geilenkirchen using the enhanced IBS market-specific solution at a total of 75 workstations.

"We are proud of the trust put in us by Otto Geilenkirchen, a pharmaceutical wholesaler of strong tradition who, at the same time, places emphasis on innovation and modern business design," says IBS Sales Manager Kai Mohr. "We have therefore reached our objective of winning three leading pharmaceutical distributors in Germany for our industry solution IBS Pharma, which is very successful all over the world. This sets the stage to combine forces and further evolve the German standard for this industry-specific solution, so that we can have a substantial say on the national market."

Future reliability and industry expertise were the decisive factors

For many years, Otto Geilenkirchen OHG has been using a customized development for operational business and a standard bookkeeping program. Strategic demands for a future-proof solution, which meets the industry's requirements as closely as possible, are behind the company's switch towards a standardized and completely integrated software package that covers all the legal regulations currently in force and may be adjusted to all changes necessitated by upcoming laws. Another point is the rising degree of warehouse automation in the company's distribution area (e.g. with regard to items with a high turnover) which requires system software that is able to map all processes without large programming efforts.

"Reliable investment protection and appropriate flexibility were top items on our wish list. After thorough market analysis, which included numerous visits to providers of various solutions, we decided in favor of IBS Pharma and IBS, a software provider with years of experience and far-reaching industry expertise", explains Lutz Geilenkirchen, Managing Director at Otto Geilenkirchen OHG. "Like Leopold Fiebig and C. Krieger, we are among the future-oriented companies in the PHARMA PRIVAT association; we will now jointly contribute to the further evolvement of IBS Pharma's German standard. At the end, every one of us will benefit from basing our approach on this division of labor."

Norbert Botte, Member of the Corporate Management and IT responsible at Otto Geilenkirchen, adds: "IBS Pharma paves the way towards completely integrated processes and efficiency-raising automation, especially in core areas of our company where high transaction rates and short throughput times place very high demands. At the same time, we expect to achieve a more streamlined workflow thanks to direct integration of downstream processes in the financial area and of BI functionality."
