IBS launches publishing advisory board

News & Events 2007-10-10

IBS Bookmaster customers join forces to guide future developments

To confirm its commitment to the global publishing industry, IBS has announced the formation of a Publishing Advisory Board (PAB) made up of a cross section of IBS Bookmaster customers. The PAB will be able to give input into the strategic direction of IBS Bookmaster’s development, ensuring it is ready and able to handle the long term requirements of the publishing industry.

William Lindsay from Harvard University Press is a founder member of the Publishing advisory Board. He comments, “I believe the new Advisory Board is a really positive move. It gives us the opportunity to speak in detail with other Bookmaster users in order to help shape the on-going developments of a product that is very important to all of us. Through these discussions, we can find common interests that foreshadow future cooperation and sometimes can discover that the resolution to what was perceived as a major problem is much simpler than was first thought.”

Peter Dart of Pearson Australia another founding member of the PAB said, “I welcome the concept of the Advisory Board and initially have found it an interesting and stimulating forum. At the first meeting we were able to raise many issues for discussion, which we usually found were shared with the other publishers. The input was welcomed by IBS, however, we will measure the real value of the PAB by its ability to deliver results to the wider Bookmaster community.”

Mike Irving, Vice President of Publishing for IBS, comments, “The publishing industry is experiencing many changes and will continue to do so. The digital age, print on demand and consolidation are having an ongoing effect and it is really our customers that are best placed to know how these issues will ultimately influence the industry. As this change happens, we need to make sure we are planning to meet industry requirements with the continued development of Bookmaster.”

He continues, “The formation of a Publishing Advisory Board made up of customers from around the world gives everyone a chance to benefit. We benefit from the experience, knowledge and guidance the Board can give us. The Board itself will benefit by having a software solution that is truly geared for the long term requirements of the publishing industry as well as their own specific needs.”

The Publishing Advisory Board will hold regular meetings throughout the world. The first meeting, held in September 2007 covered important issues, such as eCommerce, Rights Management, CRM and International Book Industry Standards.
