IBS helps Medeco deliver first aid

Medeco, Norway’s largest supplier of medical supplies, is now extending its partnership with ERP solution provider IBS. A new agreement means that Medeco is upgrading its existing business system to IBS Enterprise 6.0 to improve and optimize its management of logistics, warehousing and financials. The system is expected to go live in October 2007.

Medeco’s customers consist primarily of hospitals and health care providers, but also include private and official entities. The company even delivers complete field hospitals to local and international help organizations. Medeco usually handles up to 200 daily orders that amount to a total of 25 tons of healthcare and medical products. A secure, easily managed logistics system is an absolute requirement.

”We work in a bidding market that is characterized by high competition and an enormous price pressure between competitors,” says Knut Pettersson, director of logistics at Medeco. “It’s vital for us to have efficiencies throughout the supply chain; at the same time, we quite simply need to be able to analyze and affect events. The system opens up an entire world where we share system information with customers, suppliers and other business partners. This demands a flexible solution with easy administration.”

Medeco, which was founded in Norway in 1913, is today part of the Dutch group OPG, which has several operations around Europe. Medeco has an assortment of over 4,000 products and over 110 suppliers. In addition to medical consumer products, Medeco also offers value-added service for inventory, logistics, cost controls and product training to over 3,000 customers.
