Elsevier Australia upgrades to IBS Bookmaster 7.3

News & Events 2007-03-09

Elsevier Australia, a leading health science publisher and an IBS Bookmaster customer for more than 12 years, has recently upgraded to the latest release – IBS Bookmaster 7.3.

“Here at Elsevier, we are committed to customer service, and so need to ensure that all our applications stay current with changing technologies and business practices,” explained Ana Mendes, Operations/IT Manager, Elsevier Australia, “this is why we decided to upgrade to the latest version of IBS Bookmaster.”

An ERP upgrade is a core strategic asset within a company and a necessity to stay ahead of the competition as it increases a company’s capabilities through enhanced functionality. However, ERP upgrades do have some challenges that if managed correctly can be overcome.

“We have implemented several upgrades with IBS Bookmaster and have certainly faced some challenges,” stated Ana. “Our history when implementing upgrades with IBS has generally been good, but I have to say that this most recent upgrade project was managed exceptionally well, by both IBS and Elsevier.”

“The success of the upgrade was primarily due to the IBS consultants being very familiar with our business,” said Ana, “We also undertook an extensive testing period. I would highly recommend testing and re-testing, it certainly helped us with a smooth transition.”

Depending on the level of modifications applied to the system, the cost of upgrades can reach up to $500,000 and beyond.

“Although the initial quotation for the upgrade was considered high and we thought it might be a challenge to stay within budget, we ultimately found that the actual cost of the upgrade was lower than expected.” said Ana.

“I was very happy with the support provided by IBS, from quotation right through to post implementation.” she added.

“Now that we are working with the latest release, we have greater control over accounts payable and receivable; 13 digit ISBN capability; credit card encryption; and new CRM features, to name just a few benefits.” said Ana.

IBS released the latest version of IBS Bookmaster in April 2006. In addition to 13-digit ISBN functionality, the new IBS Bookmaster 7.3 offers customers significant warehouse enhancements such as cubing, zone RF picking and put-away logic enabling increased automation of the warehouse. Improved interfacing to external warehouse handling systems provide further efficiencies to high-volume distribution facilities.

IBS Bookmaster customers that provide third party distribution have benefited from the enhancements to the integrated 3PL (Third Party Logistics) module, while enhanced forecasting features have assisted publishers to make purchase and printing decisions based on more accurate sales analysis.

There have also been a large number of developments within the e-Commerce system including additional B2B features to allow for increased customer self-service, while new B2C functionality caters for electronic bill presentment and payment for those publishers that sell direct to consumers.

Elsevier Australia is a leading educational publisher and produces text books for the Australian and New Zealand market. In addition to books they also offer assessment solutions and an increasing volume of electronic content. Elsevier Australia is part of the Reed-Elsevier Group, which is one of the world’s largest and leading publishers.
