LexisNexis China goes live with IBS Bookmaster

News & Events 2006-09-11

LexisNexis China went live with IBS Bookmaster on 5th June 2006, making them the ninth LexisNexis subsidiary using IBS Bookmaster.

LexisNexis, a division of Reed Elsevier, is a leading provider of business and legal information products and solutions for professionals and students. LexisNexis already uses IBS Bookmaster in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Canada and South Africa.

“LexisNexis China had for some years used a legacy system called ‘Yong Yu’,” stated Jason Tan, Business Systems Administrator, Asia, “which specifically catered for local government reporting requirements.”

Yong Yu was a simple distribution and financials system, which did not integrate with IBS Bookmaster, meaning that financial figures had to be manually exported from Yong Yu and entered into IBS Bookmaster where they were consolidated for regional reporting.

“In the past there was a lack of integrity as data would have to be entered more than once for order entry, billing and reporting purposes,” explained Jason.

With other LexisNexis Asia Pacific units such as Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand using IBS Bookmaster, implementing the publishing specific system in the Chinese operation made a lot of sense.

“By implementing IBS Bookmaster, Chinese users can now process orders, generate billing and upload transactions to the GL all within the same system used across the region.” said Jason. “Having a common central system also means that LexisNexis China will benefit from economies of scale and internal training and support from across the region.”

The early efficiencies gained by LexisNexis China have included an increased ability to keep records of individual customer’s sales history and considerable time saving in end of month processing as the figures do not have to be manually re-entered.

Although LexisNexis China went live on release 7.2, it is expected that they will upgrade to release 7.3 by the end of the year.

“Release 7.3 has double-byte character support which will allow us to view and print all information in Chinese,” stated Jason.

“IBS Bookmaster is already being used successfully by LexisNexis in South Africa and Canada as well as across the Asia Pacific region including Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and now China,” explained Jason, “IBS Bookmaster has been decided upon as the regional financials and ERP solution for LexisNexis Asia Pacific. With both Japan, earlier in the year, and now China being successful implementations, it is likely that the system will also be rolled out to other business units within the region in due course, namely India, Korea and Taiwan.”

IBS Bookmaster has been specifically designed to meet the unique requirements of the publishing industry. The system has been developed in conjunction with many leading publishers and book distributors from around the world.
