LexisNexis Japan goes live with IBS BookmasterNews & Events 2006-03-23 LexisNexis Japan went live with IBS Bookmaster on Monday 13th March, making them the eighth LexisNexis subsidiary using IBS Bookmaster. LexisNexis, a division of Reed Elsevier, is a leading provider of business and legal information products and solutions for professionals and students. LexisNexis already uses Bookmaster in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Canada and South Africa.
“IBS Bookmaster has proven to be a robust and reliable system in the region across LexisNexis Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore as well as in LexisNexis South Africa and Canada,” said Anton Colenbrander, Business Systems Manager, LexisNexis Asia Pacific. “It is being rolled out across Asia Pacific as our chosen regional fulfilment and financials tool. Implementing IBS Bookmaster in Japan is aligned with one of our core strategies which is to achieve regional systems alignment.”
Before deciding to go ahead with Bookmaster, LexisNexis Japan utilized a local application called Yayoi for processing of orders and billing. However, stock and other aspects of the business were managed separately in spreadsheets.
“The Japanese business unit had started from a zero base and Yayoi was sufficient to get them up and running for the first few years,” said Anton, “but as they have rapidly grown, they now need a more sophisticated system that can manage their stock and fulfilment of orders in greater volumes.”
One of the requirements of LexisNexis Japan was that IBS Bookmaster be able to display and print customers, authors and titles in Japanese characters, which IBS Bookmaster was able to achieve.
“One of the main benefits for LexisNexis Japan is that they now have a fully integrated system where everything flows from the one system and each module checks and balances with other modules,” commented Anton.
LexisNexis Japan’s financials now flow into a consolidated General Ledger (GL) together with other LexisNexis units in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. This consolidated GL allows for quick and accurate reporting while administration and consolidation of financials can now be managed at the Singapore office, without having to manually import figures from different systems, as was done previously.
Historically, the rest of the Asia Pacific region had no access to Yayoi and had little visibility as to how the Japanese business was performing at a detailed level. Summarized figures had to be uploaded into IBS Bookmaster for reporting purposes.
“Now there is complete transparency,” explained Anton, “we can track a single Japanese order from beginning to end, check stock levels and more, from Japan, Australia or Singapore.”
“In addition, utilising IBS Bookmaster provides uniformity across the region, which allows for benefits of scale with system knowledge and support, vendor relationships, upgrades and regional consolidation of financials.”
LexisNexis Asia Pacific is currently preparing to implement IBS Bookmaster in LexisNexis China.
