Pearson Australia chooses Bookmaster

News & Events 2003-05-27

Pearson Australia, the largest publisher in Australia, has chosen the Bookmaster publishing system from Australian software developer TMS Tailor Made Systems for its operations in Australia and New Zealand.

May 2003: Pearson Australia will implement Bookmaster in all its Australasian operational groups. These comprise Penguin Australia and New Zealand, Pearson Education Australia and New Zealand and Dorling Kindersley.

Bookmaster is the leading publishing and distribution system in Australia and is used by the majority of the leading trade and academic publishers. It is also the most widely used publishing system in the world, being used by more than 80 publishers in 16 countries.

“Pearson Education has used Bookmaster for several years so we know it is up to the challenging task of supporting our Australasian operations” said Peter Field, Chief Executive Officer of Pearson Australia.

“We have agreed on a tight implementation timetable with TMS, targeting a go-live date in September 2003 before the start of the pre-Christmas peak. Key personnel from Pearson and TMS are working together to ensure we meet this challenging goal. We are confident we can achieve this go-live date and are very pleased to be partnering with an Australian company.

Jim Abad, Managing Director of TMS, stated “We are very happy to be working with Pearson Australia. We have had an excellent relationship with Pearson Education over the years and look forward to extending this relationship throughout the Pearson group in Australia and New Zealand.

“Penguin has always had an exceptional reputation for its adoption and use of technology and we’re delighted they have chosen us as a key technology partner for the future. We are looking forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship.”

Pearson Australia was formed in 2002 through the merger of Pearson Education Australia, Dorling Kindersley Australia and Penguin Australia. Other Pearson group companies to use Bookmaster include Pearson Singapore and Maskew Miller Longman, a Pearson joint venture and the largest academic publisher in South Africa.

TMS is based in Sydney and has offices in Singapore and the UK and software associates in the USA, South Africa and the Netherlands.
